Mosaic Arts Online is thrilled to present Caitlin Hepworth’s “Salvaged Treasure Mixed Media Mosaics” online course.
Caitlin’s unique and expressive style of mosaic art comes through in three different approaches of this online course that she calls “Fossick,” “Salvage,” and “Treasure.” Using an array of found and precocious items, Caitlin weaves together stories from different parts of her life to create three different mixed media mosaics based on a different approach.
Caitlin starts with “Fossick,” and shares how going for walks on the beach and hikes (or as Caitlin calls them “bush walks”) can be great places for collecting different objects such as rocks, shells, or stones that bring back memories of experiences. Next, she shares how finding “Salvaged” pieces from old landfills or other abandoned places can help to include amazing history and a vintage look. Lastly, she includes her “Treasure” section which is very special to her. After experiencing a home fire in 2015, Caitlin shares how very sentimental pieces can be used to create a once in a lifetime mosaic that has a story and lasting memories.
Caitlin teaches in depth how to plan your mosaic, how to draw out your andamento, and how to work on a substrate within a frame which gives your piece a completed look. Caitlin shares how to create a value scale with tinted thin set/mortar and how to create a gradation as she works her way up the substrate while creating each mosaic.
This is a very comprehensive course and allows the student to choose one or all of the approaches when learning and creating. If you have been saving found objects from different parts of your life to create unique, lasting, and creative mosaics for telling your stories, then this is the course for you.
This course comes with a PDF of suggested tools, materials, and resources.
