Have you ever collected beautiful seaglass… only to feel unsure how to turn it into a mosaic that truly flows and feels complete?
Step into the world of seaglass mosaics with artist Kenny Blaine, where every piece of glass holds a story, and every design becomes a reflection of movement, nature, and personal expression.
From the shores of Puerto Rico, Kenny has spent years gathering ocean-shaped glass and transforming it into intricate, vibrant mosaics.
In this course, he shares not just his techniques but his approach, helping you move beyond random placement to intentional, expressive design.
This is where your mosaics begin to shift… from simply placing pieces to truly creating with purpose.
Before diving into two beautiful projects, you’ll be introduced to Kenny’s approachable method of building mosaic lines, “andamento lite.” This technique will instantly elevate your work, giving it rhythm, flow, and visual movement.
You’ll also explore innovative ways to work with tinted thinset mortar, enhancing the natural color of your seaglass and even creating smooth, seamless finishes without grout.
Through guided, step-by-step instruction, you’ll create:
• A striking spiral mosaic using three colors of seaglass, built in real time so you can follow every detail with confidence
• A dimensional seaglass flower that brings depth, layering, and sculptural beauty into your work
And if you’ve ever been hesitant to cut your seaglass, Kenny will show you how to do it with intention, opening up entirely new possibilities for curves, clean edges, and refined design.
What you’ll learn:
• How to create flow and movement using “andamento lite”
• Techniques for setting seaglass to achieve cohesive, intentional designs
• How to use tinted thinset to enhance color and eliminate the need for grout
• Methods for creating a smooth thin set effect while "ditching the grout"
• How to safely and effectively cut seaglass with wheeled nippers to create shapes and detail
• How to build depth and dimension in your mosaics
• Ways to move beyond random placement and develop your artistic voice
You’ll also receive a downloadable PDF with all the tools, materials, and trusted sources for seaglass, so you can begin wherever you are. Even if you do not have a collection of seaglass, Kenny provides a variety of resources for purchasing it.
If you’re ready to turn your collection of beautiful glass pieces into mosaics that feel alive, balanced, and uniquely yours… this course will guide you every step of the way.
Your Instructor
Kenny Blaine is a mosaic artist, beachcomber, and classically trained pianist in the beautiful Palmas del Mar, Puerto Rico community. Upon discovering the abundance of sea glass available on the island (and after accumulating too much), Kenny was inspired to explore and develop artistic processes to incorporate it into his work. His sea glass mosaic stylings cover nautical subjects, themes of natural beauty, and deeper meaningful life experiences. Through many of his works, one can observe his classical music training and how it translates into the intentional placement of glass and movement within his mosaics. When not creating, Kenny provides state tax incentive advisory services to film, tv and commercial producers throughout the United States. Kenny holds a BA in Music from Beloit College.
