In this all-encompassing online course, Mark Brody takes students through the steps from beginning to end on how to create and mosaic a wall fountain. He covers the proper substrates to use, how to treat the edges, which hanging hardware is needed, and so much more. He goes over the necessary fountain hardware in his "3 easy pieces" section to make it achievable for any student. There is a section dedicated to cutting the basin and small cups for manipulating the flow of water by using a wet saw. Mark has years of experience in creating many styles of wall fountains, and he shows students the different ways to create the best water flow. Mark has broken this entire process down in such detail that each step is easily accomplished before moving on to the next. Having a wet saw for cutting the basin is essential, but if borrowing one from a tile setter is possible, you will be on your way to creating different mosaic wall fountains. If that is not possible, the PDF includes a link to purchase a small wet saw that is under $70.00. (This is the same one that Mark uses in this online course.) Once the basin, small cups, and bowls are cut, students are instructed on properly attaching these pieces before beginning to mosaic the fountain. This is an incredible course that can be referred to repeatedly for the creation of multiple fountains. There are pictures of different styles of fountains for viewing. In addition, Mark demonstrates two different water flow options which create choices for the student based on their preferences.

Mosaic for me has been an exploration of color, pattern and placement. I find that mosaic has very few limits; there are so many materials to collect, combine and explore.

Although I have been practicing other art mediums for many years,
I believe that
mosaic is a very good teacher because it has allowed my style to emerge with every piece I lay.

TESTIMONIALS:

A while back a friend gave me a box of damaged vintage Malibu tile. I decided that an outdoor fountain was the best use for them. I discovered Mark Brody’s book “Mosaic Garden Projects” at the library and was happy to discover that he lives here in Portland, OR. I sent him an email asking if he had any workshops coming up and he told me that he was just finishing up taping an online course for Mosaicartsonline.com. As soon as the class went online I signed up. I watched the whole course and found it clear and concise. His supply list was very useful in gathering materials. I had additional questions and Mark generously helped me problem solve and think through some of my unique challenges. I rewatched some of the segments as I moved through the steps. I was thrilled when I did my first water test and it worked like magic. I’m pleased with the way it turned out and am grateful to Mark for his help and encouragement. I’m ready for a new project and feel like a kid in a candy store looking at all of the classes that have been added to the online school. Laurie E.

I grew up in the day when girls took Home Ec and boys took SHOP, so the idea of building things is always a bit intimidating. But I did it! I bypassed the need for an electric drill by using an exact knife. I bought the wet saw, which was inexpensive, and it is the coolest thing ever!!!!! I'm going to use the processes I learned to build a wall garden, cutting vessels and attaching them to a surface like this. I am envisioning long trailing plants. Carol B.
