Beginner Mosaics with Tami Macala

Mosaic Arts Online is thrilled to launch the first Beginner Mosaics course. Tami gives instruction on every tip, trick, and technique that students need to know to create mosaic art and repeat the skills. This course contains so much more than quick techniques, it is a full comprehensive introduction to the many elements of mosaic art creation. This course also includes a demonstration of a project specifically created for students to watch and learn.

Tami starts with introducing many of the elements necessary to create a mosaic art project. Many of these elements can be used for the project in this course, and some introductory information will help students in their future projects.

Once students have been introduced to the fundamental elements, Tami then demonstrates cutting of the various materials such as specific substrates, mixing thinset and grout, wrapping of the Wedi board edges, and finally, installing hanging hardware.

After all of the demonstrations are complete, Tami dives in and creates a mosaic art project from beginning to end. There three hours of footage, as well as dedicated time to simply watch Tami work to music as she makes specific choices during the mosaic process. Tami also uses three different types of materials (tesserae) to complete this mosaic project which give it more dimension and depth. At the conclusion, Tami demonstrates the best way to grout a textured piece.

Throughout the course, students will watch from an “over-hands” perspective. This course gives students a great deal of information that can be used for future projects, and the information can be tailored to the materials, adhesive, and substrate the student chooses.
