Have you ever felt the need to take some of your mosaic materials and create something completely outside of the mosaic box? Would you love to learn new ways to create a mixed media piece with simple items such as discarded plates, ceramics, or pottery? Now imagine you could create a succulent garden, no watering needed, with these materials plus a few items from nature! If this all sounds creative and fun then you are at the right place.
Mosaic Arts Online introduces Chery Cohen and her Mixed Media Succulent Gardens online course. In this course Cheryl shares her inventive and creative approach to making three different shapes of succulents from old plates, ceramic pieces, and pottery. Cheryl breaks down her methods to make this a very easy and gratifying project. You will watch Cheryl work in real time as she demonstrates each of these steps while creating a succulent garden from beginning to end.
In this course you will learn:
- Where to find the best substrates and how to prep them
- How to clean your materials from nature
- How to cut each of the shapes to create the succulents
- How to assemble the succulents
- How to create smaller elements
- How to tint Apoxie Sculpt and create more succulents
- How to assemble your succulent garden
- How to add natural elements for background and accents
Cheryl shares a variety of succulent gardens she has created to give you even more inspiration. This course is great for anyone looking to learn how to create a unique project to give as a gift or decorate for indoor display. Once you learn these techniques we guarantee you won’t be able to stop.
This course comes with a PDF for download of the suggested tools, materials, and resources.
Your Instructor
My inspiration is the natural world. I love watching water, how it makes impressions in sand, how weeds work their way around and through rocks, and how flowers appear in the least expected places. I love seeing the sheen of water and the mica in rocks, seeing reflections in puddles, how rain sparkles on leaves after the morning dew. I strive to have these moments depicted in my work.
I use plate shards, stained glass, stones, slate, moss, and other natural and upcycled materials to create mixed media mosaic art to form succulent flowers, plants, and forest floor landscapes in both representative and abstract forms.
Initially educated and employed as an occupational therapist with a lifelong passion for art, in 2010 I opened Cheryl Cohen Mosaics Art Center, the fulfillment of a lifelong dream to teach art classes in my own studio. Over the years, my studio grew to 2000 students per year, with tens of thousands of items in inventory. I find joy in gathering materials (at antique stores, yard sales, on the beach and in the forest), creating art, and encouraging my students to grow and learn.
