Mosaic Arts Online presents Rachel Sager and her online course "The Intuitive VENN Mosaic: Crossing The Threshold Between ART and SELF."
The VENN Diagram is a powerful teaching tool for comparing and contrasting ideas. Its overlapping circles and its clear, concise walls help students to make connections between ideas. Rachel has adapted the strengths of VENN thinking into a course tailored specifically for the mosaic artist.
A VENN is simply a collection of circles. But more specifically, circles that overlap each other.
Those spaces of overlap are full of energy. They are where change happens. Using a VENN in your studio can help you break down artistic barriers. It can help you move, metaphorically, from one world into another. The VENN represents a stage. You are the director.
In place of the traditional words, you will explore material, color, and andamento as you learn to build a very VENNISH composition. Rachel will lead you, step by step, through the parts and sections of four unique VENN mosaics. You will learn how to make direct connections between these threshold spaces and the spaces in your own life and studio practice. You will learn how to sketch your own VENN compositions and discover how quick repetition is the key to building a good one.
The beauty of this composition is that no two VENNS are or will be alike. The circular format stays the same but you choose how it will be built. This is a whole new way of thinking about your art practice.
You can choose to make one VENN but more likely you may see a series of these fascinating compositions in your future.
Your VENN stage can be a healing composition or an intuitive journey. It can be as simple as a study in marble and as transformative as grappling with your biggest fear.

-- Rachel Sager: Artist. Teacher. Speaker. Writer. Rachel works on the cutting edge of the contemporary mosaic fine art movement—her innovative work has been represented in cities throughout the US and internationally, and has been awarded multiple bests of show in juried exhibitions. Her Marcellus Shale Series stands as a true Pittsburgh success story, and her work is collected with passion by private clients and corporations all over the world. Rachel’s commitment to the classical language of mosaic paired with her intuitive andamento style has shaped a strong voice in the mosaic world. She brings these classical techniques home to the “here and now” of the present American mosaic movement. Rachel proudly hails from the foothills of Appalachia and passionately preserves her storytelling, hillbilly roots as she weaves the colorful tales of family, nature, self-reliance, humor, and the legacy of coal through the lens of mosaic. Whether she is digging into the earth of her native Pennsylvania or traveling the world as a teacher and speaker, her mission to “build the line” in mosaic continues to inspire new generations of mosaicists. http://www.rachelsagermosaics.com
